MMO Tubular Titanium Anodes for ICCP
For impressed-current cathodic protection, configure the anode from the service environment—not from a copied catalogue current. CathPro reviews the electrolyte, required current and design life before defining the active area, cable assembly and inspection scope.
- Bare / Cable-Connected
- String / Canister Options
- Order-Defined Active Area
- Project Document Support
Product visuals are representative concept studies. Final coating system, titanium grade, active area, dimensions, cable construction, performance and inspection scope are controlled by the confirmed quotation, approved drawing and order documents.

System and per-anode current, duty cycle, available voltage and installation arrangement.
Evaluated against active area, current density, cumulative charge and qualified evidence.
The complete current path
Reliable output depends on every interface in the circuit.
The MMO coating is the catalytic current-discharge surface. The cable joint, titanium substrate, active coating, electrolyte, protected structure and negative return must operate as one controlled ICCP circuit.
A quotation should separate certified substrate data, qualified coating evidence, verified assembly features and project-calculated system performance.
First-principles design basis
Size the operating duty before selecting the tube.
Tube dimensions alone do not establish a safe current rating or service life. The accepted proposal must state the conditions and evidence behind every performance value.
Current density
Operating current ÷ active coated area
The permissible range must be supported for the specified electrolyte and coating system.
Cumulative charge
Operating current × operating time
Design life requires a declared duty cycle, active area and product-relevant qualification basis.
System resistance
Available DC voltage ÷ total circuit resistance
Backfill, soil or water, spacing, cables and structure geometry all influence achievable current.
Select the supply configuration
Match the physical supply to the installation method.
Final construction is defined by the RFQ, client specification, approved drawing, bill of materials and inspection plan.

Cable-connected assembly
Define the whole electrical assembly.
Tube geometry, active and inactive areas, cable construction, supplied length, connection, seal, strain relief and inspection are confirmed together.

Order-configured product family
Use one controlled design basis for each size.
Different lengths or active areas are not automatically interchangeable. Operating conditions and supporting qualification evidence follow the accepted order documents.
Control the failure points
The coating is only one part of an anode that survives service.
Premature loss of output can begin at the coating, electrical joint, environmental seal, cable or installation interface. Each requires a defined acceptance basis.
Titanium substrate
Product form, grade, material specification, dimensions, active length, surface preparation and lot traceability.
MMO coating
Electrolyte-compatible coating system, controlled application, batch identification and project-agreed qualification evidence.
Electrical connection
Order-defined cable-to-titanium joint with agreed continuity or connection-resistance inspection.
Seal and strain relief
Environmental protection and mechanical support selected for handling, installation depth, immersion and chemical exposure.
Lead cable
Conductor size, insulation system, voltage rating, supplied length, identification and termination arrangement.

Application fit
Use the electrolyte and installation to choose the configuration.
MMO tubular anodes may be considered for multiple ICCP environments, but one coating, current density or cable construction should not be assumed suitable for every application.
- Buried pipeline surface groundbeds
- Deep-anode groundbed systems
- Tank-bottom and tank-internal ICCP
- Freshwater and brackish-water structures
- Marine and seawater structures
- Drawing-defined replacement anodes
- Concrete applications with project-specific qualification
- Custom mounting or canister interfaces
Standards by scope
Use each reference only for the layer it controls.
There is no single public standard that certifies the titanium substrate, MMO coating, cable assembly and complete ICCP system together.
| Reference | What it controls | Correct application |
|---|---|---|
| ASTM B338-17(2026) | Titanium and titanium-alloy tube product forms. | Substrate material reference when the ordered product form and grade are certified. It does not cover MMO coating or finished-anode performance. |
| ISO 19097-2:2018 | Accelerated life testing of MMO anodes used in soil and natural waters. | Coating qualification method under declared test conditions; not a universal field-life guarantee or finished-unit certification. |
| NACE TM0108-2012 | Accelerated life testing of catalyzed titanium anodes. | Project-specified qualification method. Material-specific correlation and acceptance criteria must be defined. |
| ISO 15589-1:2026 | On-land pipeline cathodic-protection systems. | System design, installation, commissioning, operation and maintenance reference; not a standalone anode certificate. |
| NACE SP0169-2024 | External corrosion control for underground or submerged metallic piping. | General system and protection-practice reference. |
| NACE SP0572-2024 | Impressed-current deep-anode systems. | Deep-anode design, installation, operation and maintenance reference; not an MMO coating specification. |
The quotation should identify the required standard edition, product form, grade, test method, specimen relationship, acceptance criteria and evidence. Complete-system compliance depends on project design, installation, commissioning and operation.

Technical questions
Turn a generic request into a quoteable requirement.
These answers separate substrate certification, coating qualification, finished-anode inspection and complete-system design.
What current can one MMO tubular anode deliver?
Current is selected from active coated area, qualified current density, electrolyte, temperature, installation arrangement and available system voltage. A fixed value cannot be assigned from tube dimensions alone.
How is design life determined?
Design life depends on cumulative charge, operating current density, coating qualification, electrolyte chemistry, temperature, duty cycle, cable integrity and system operation. The value is confirmed only against an agreed design basis.
Does ASTM B338 cover the MMO coating?
No. ASTM B338 covers titanium and titanium-alloy tube product forms. The MMO coating, cable connection, sealing and finished-anode performance require separate order requirements and evidence.
Does ISO 19097-2 certify every finished anode?
No. It is an accelerated-life-test method for MMO anodes used in soil and natural waters. Qualification conditions, specimen relationship and acceptance criteria must be stated.
Can CathPro review a deep-well or replacement requirement?
Yes. Send the groundbed data or existing drawing with the operating duty, cable, installation and documentation requirements. Similar external dimensions do not prove interchangeability.
What information is needed for quotation?
Provide the protected structure, electrolyte, required current, design life, configuration, dimensions or drawing, cable requirement, quantity, destination and required inspection documents.
